Classification of Computers According to Size
After the invention of Computer, Computer has made a great development strongly in its size and capability and is providing much better services.
On the basis of Size and Capability, Computers are classified into five groups which are as follows:
1) Super Computer:
Super Computers are the fastest, largest and most expensive computers which are widely used in scientific applications such as weather forecasting, design simulations, atomic plants,nuclear research and satellite tracking.These computers have the capabilities much more than a Mainframe Computer.The speed of Super Computers are measured in FLOPS (floating point operations per second).
2) Mainframe Computer (Macro Computer):
Mainframe Computers are very expensive, large and fast computers.They are powerful multi-user and multi-processors computers.Mainframe computer may be used by thousands of users all over the world at the same time and a number of programs may be run on it at the same time. They are used in large sized organizations, large manufacturing companies,stock markets, banks, air lines, hotels, large hospitals etc. They are also called Large Scale Computers.
